OK, so I have been trialling trixie on my PinePhone running from an SD card for a couple of weeks now. As before, some applications, usually Chromium/Electron based do not automatically trigger the appearance of the on screen keyboard when you click in a text field.

This has been the case in all versions of mobian I have used.

In the bookworm based version you can hit the miniscule keyboard icon at the bottom right of the screen to bring up the keyboard. Hit and miss on the PP, works much better on my PPP.

In trixie that icon is not present and I cannot for the life of me work out how to get the on screen keyboard (squeekboard in my case) to appear manually.

What is the magic incantation that the Phosh developers landed upon to allow users to get the OSK to appear manually?

I am vegetarian so if it involves boiling body parts of various creatures in a cauldron of ox blood over a fire made of elm and oak branches at full moon then I will have to get an Android phone instead.

Thanks, as ever in advance for any useful information.
The clue is in the app "Mobile Settings" under "Unfold long-press". Which is a pretty inaccurate way to describe it.
This really should be a core optional or bundled packages for not just Mobian but all phosh and plasma builds.
We have a working 100% Debian linux based(Maemo 5) solution here for a system current around 2009 pre-systemd.
I have gotten the bluetooth PAN service to work once about four years ago on a PP running then current mobian though I had to in the end tunnel using SSH(works like a duct-tape fast socks VPN) to the phone from the client laptop as I had not configured the iptables routing correctly(ssh -D user@pinephoneIPaddress).
It is not clear whether this long tone triggers something proprietary in a phone provided by AT&T or whether just sending the tone out over the phone network is sufficient.
Hi All,

New PinePhone Pro, put Mobian on it right away because I'm already using Debian on several R Pis, so its familiar. I put it on an SD card and BEFORE first boot it was a little tricky to get it to boot. Someone who knows more than me should capture that for us, I just stumbled into how to get it to boot the very first time. But once it had been through the first boot it shows up reliably in the U-Boot choices, so all good there.

And it comes up just fine and you can look around and see the apps and so forth. BUT, when an app is selected, you see it starting with appropriate looking visuals, but then when you expect the app to be open and ready to do something for you, all you get is the default screen background!

I tried four or five apps, including settings and the tour/tutorial, and you can see that they're running because the higher-level window manager works fine. So you can swipe this way and that and see stuff. BUT, you can't actually get into any app!

HELP!

Thanks,

I've been running Mobian on my Pinephone for about 4 years now... maybe 5.
I prefer X11 to Wayland for my own reasons, so I'm looking to find out if I can port XLibre to Aarch64 Mobian.
XLibre looks like it will be supported and extended in future, whereas it looks like XOrg is either stalled or ending.

Has anyone tried it yet?

I've noticed that the mobian dialer has an option to add a SIP account.

I did so and was able to place a call over wifi with no SIM card in the PinePhone. But after a reboot, the option to place a SIP call is gone even though the file /home/mobian/.config/calls/sip-account.cfg is still present and unchanged. And I had to re-enter all SIP account details in order to make another call.

Is the dialer supposed to notice the presence of /home/mobian/.config/calls/sip-account.cfg after a reboot?

Does this work for anyone?

Mobian Pinephone Notification LED

In the last week of so I have noticed my PPpro will get a flashing LED notification in an aqua blue-green color, I think this is for a missed incoming call.
I really liked the Notification LED on the Nokia N900 and how it was used, breathing orange for charging, red flashing for low battery, green external power & fully charged, blue for USB host mode, I think there was a flashing blue LED for received IM or SMS too.
If the new flashing aqua color LED notification is for missed call how do we end/kill the LED notification(calling back doesn't work nor does clicking the notification).
What other notifications would you like to see added as clickable options for the notification LED?
me I like:
Charging - red:below 5-10% breathing orange:charging chafged ext power:green
messaging phone - aqua flashing:missed call blue flashing:SMS blue flashing pattern:messenger new color:email
Navigation - red-blue flashing: lost GPS, signal pattern speed varies on how bad signal accuracy gets
maybe notifications to see if a call or whatever is a secure VOIP vs a non-secure cellular call
whatever these are should be user configurable including changing the colors and patterns

I have been using Libretranslate for a while as a webapp on my Pinephone Pro running Mobian Trixie, the free service seems to have been discontinued but I need translation as an everyday driver phone tool.
I found Vivaldi browser has an allegedly privacy oriented translation service included as a tool in the browser so I went to the website to see if it was compatible with the PP. https://vivaldi.com/download/
The answer is yes they have an arm and arm64 version (deb and rpm) available for DL(mobian take the arm64 deb) which installs and runs on the PP, the UI is a bit smashed but everything has worked for me so far, as long as you are OK with using rotation a bit.
Is it really so private? IDK there is this reddit discussion thread https://redlib.perennialte.ch/r/browsers..._security/
I have only done a small bit of testing the translation tool and tweaking of settings. This Chromium based browser company is based in Europe, is supposedly a pro privacy employee owned company which only keeps back the add-on components from being all FOSS, built in translation, ad-blocker, other interesting vivaldi social media and messaging attempts, browser sync; it seems to work for the most part so you can also test out Vivaldi if you like.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vivaldi_(web_browser)

FYI I went through and quickly disabled the main google attached search and call-home settings that I am familiar with, there may be more, but you can set dudkduckgo as a search engine and I think the ublock origin can be side loaded as well as the unofficial non-google chrome webstore app.
