Maemo Leste uses the Hildon menu, to get an application shortcut to show up in the menu you need to move it to

cd /usr/share/applications/hildon/

I figured this out because I added bluetooth manager and was trying to get the bluetooth manager into the start menu, and I was able to with this command:

I figured this out because I added bluetooth manager and was trying to get the bluetooth manager into the start menu, and I was able to with this command:

Bluetooth manager showed up, but the adapters do not. Not sure exactly why, but I didn't actually need the blueman-adapters link. Phone calls even work, SMS can be sent and received and will appear in conversations. Connection via the operator's mobile data also works, but the APN context must be set after starting the system for the first time. I don't have a physical pinephone keyboard, so I had to turn off PP and modify the sd card in PC.
It is still not comfortable to use, but a significant improvement can be seen.

Just given this a try and was able to send/receive an SMS, and make/recieve a call (audio quality seemed fine).

Just need to see how stable the modem is, and if it works during/after suspend.

If you haven't checked it out for a while, it might be worth a go.

I read something that suggested initramfs isn't used during maemo-lest startup. Does that sound right to anyone?
Also, would it make sense that a maemo-leste image would create a write protected sector on a microSD card during boot process?

There have been a few parallel attempts to port Debian to the ARM architecture, Maemo being the longest running. Currently, the project for porting Debian to arm and arm64 is unmaintained. You might be wondering, why hasn't this been done sooner? Simply put, everyone has been relying on the Android kernel, so benefits are not making it back to Linux. However, there are a few more projects for Debian on ARM (mainly ARM64) including PureOS, Dragonbox Pyra, Armbian, and Debian + phosh, so that's about to change rapidly.

Most discussion about Maemo occurs on their website and platforms, go here for an updated list of links. There is an ongoing thread about Maemo Leste for the Pinephone.

With volunteers we can easily test and get it to a stable condition on the PinePhone, so I compiled some useful links:
