debian+phosh running on PinePhone
Hi All,

Each update in the last few weeks has been better than the last. Thanks everyone!

The latest update (04/27) seems more responsive to me. The installation is much smoother now that the auto-brightness seems to be less aggressive. I haven't needed to shut it off yet. The default scaling factor is working for me too so far. I hope that it will make some of the apps easier to work with when they bring up menus. Evolution browser seems to be working a bit better, maybe because wifi is more reliable.

Tapping on the top bar brings up the sliders for volume and brightness as well as status of wifi/cellular/battery. I see that it now brings up a power button that allows you to pick the kind of shutdown/logout/reboot that you want. But, it shows up right where the battery icon was (top-right), which makes it more likely that I'll tap on it by accident or because the phone interprets a single tap and two taps. I'll try to practice tapping the top-middle, but I think that others might instinctively tap the battery icon to see battery status, or wifi for wifi status, etc.

I'm not sure if this is a Firefox issue or something specific to the pinephone, but when I play inline videos I'm hearing the audio get super distorted with frequencies being down-shifted, especially obvious with human voices that begin to sound demonic. Any idea where I should report and/or diagnose this problem?

I hope that these reports are helpful. I'm also curious how best to contribute to this project. Is there a place where I can donate some money like the UBTouch folks?

Thanks!
Chris

Did you disable the "hardcoded" config first ? (assuming you have pinephone-devtools installed, it is stored in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/USB-gadget.nmconnection)

Not yet - hope @rico can bail my pathetic networking skills out on this one! I see usb0 is in USB-gadget mode - need to work out how to get it into Hotspot mode as per wlan0.

You mean access the internet from the PC via usb ?
using the phone as a usb modem ?

Do you have a Linux like OS on the client side (PC) ? (not just to ask but to answer it will be helpfull)

Currently you have an 'out of the box' point to point connection between the client (PC) and the server (PinePhone) if pinephone-devtools are installed as mentionned by a-wai on previous page
But as the ssh-server even if it can be usefull, we have to "point the interest of all" before making this feature a default feature.

Anyway i'll try tomorrow just to find an answer (not now, i forgot my PinePhone at work Sad , bad day...)
ip forwarding and NAT are not pre-configured (even with 'pinephone-devtools' installed)
Big Grin
Just imported all my contacts (*.vcf) via "Evolution" - they do all appear now in the Contacts- and in the Chats-application.
tried this version 20 minutes of telegram (,used 27% battery) total time on and idle ,went from 81% to 14% in 4 !/2 hours about 14.8% per hour (gives about 7 hrs ).

Yes, yes & yes.

Ubuntu on the client PC, mobile (4G) data is the only internet connection in my house so want to share it from the pinephone via USB in preference to WiFi.

Thanks for providing this, as well as an easy way to build my own image. If I'm hacking on it, is there a faster way of testing than writing to a SD card and booting my PinePhone with it?
Just noticed the volume buttons don't work.
Hi All,

I'm having problems with GPS. It shows my location as 50km away from where I am currently located.

It looks like location is hooked in via the ModemManager. When I follow the manual page for mmcli to get the location at the command-line I'm getting some weird results.

Code:
debian@pinephone:~$ sudo mmcli -m 0 --enable
successfully enabled the modem
debian@pinephone:~$ sudo mmcli -m 0 --location-status

debian@pinephone:~$ sudo mmcli -m 0 --location-enable-gps-raw

debian@pinephone:~$ sudo mmcli -m 0 --location-enable-gps-nmea

debian@pinephone:~$ sudo mmcli -m 0 --location-get

      |                     ??A:4*??AXDaB???,X0aB???,X0aBEJ?2?(

Where's the code for the custom ModemManager? I could have a look and see if I can figure out what goes wrong in my case.

Thanks,
Chris

OK currently typing this from my RockPro64 which is getting internet connection from the PinePhone USB-C Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Main change is to edit USB-gadget network manager profile and change ipv4 method from manual to shared. I appreciate this changes the original gadget configuration, however with suitable entries in /etc/dnsmasq.conf I now have automatic IP address assignment to the RockPro64 and ssh still works.

I need to check all my steps before doing a more coherent write-up.
