New NVMe SSD not seen by OSes

The NVMe adapter in our Pinebook Pros only supports PCIe type, (& NVMe). Ideally a M.2 with M key only would be used, (4 x PCIe lanes for maximum speed). Here is the description;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2#Form_f...and_keying

But, both B & M key PCIe NVMe SSDs can be used, as long as you understand the SATA & USB part won't work in a Pinebook Pro.

I thought I had read that only M keyed (excluding M + B) M.2 SSDs would work in the adapter, but can't find the reference anymore so I may have misread it.  Either way, thanks for the clarification.  I was wondering why the only 42mm SSD listed as working in the wiki was keyed B+M, and found this post while searching for the answer.  So the issue is not with the additional B key, but with the SATA interface.  Looking at Newegg, it appears that their filtering should make this easier.  You can select both the form factor (M.2 along with the size code) and the interface (PCI express), and that brings up the Sabrient drives and the Toshiba RC100.

I was looking for that as well, and couldn't find it even after consulting the user guide. On Monday I submitted a question on the power states to their presales department.  So far I only have an email acknowledging the question, but once I hear back I'll post the answer.

Another 42mm pcie drive that looks promising is the Lexar NM520 M.2 2242 256GB NVMe Solid-State Drive (LNM520-256RBNA).  From the description at Amazon:
  • Ideal for smaller notebooks
  • Upgrade from SATA to an entry-level PCIe NVMe performance
  • Faster speeds of up to 1650MB/s read and 1000MB/s write 1
  • Get 2. 5x the speed of a SATA-based SSD
