i3wm on-phone
#1
I'm a big fan of i3wm and I'm hoping to try it out on the phone, curious if anyone has tried it yet. I think a special approach to using the i3 shortcuts in a touch capacity would be needed to make it worthwhile, but that might not be too difficult. Any other thoughts on tiling window managers?

I plan on trying swaywm on mine. It's i3-like but on wayland and should work well with touch I am told.

I am thinking something similar. I've been using i3 for some months now, but what I found most useful in it is dmenu. As long as the window manager has workspaces and dmenu, I think it would be very usable. You would only need to have a few gestures: Switch workspace, open dmenu, escape, close program. You could have all of your scripts and launchers in custom dmenu, so you would not actually need any launchers on the phone "desktop" screen. Minimalism.

Are you expecting the tiling function itself to be very useful? I don't really see fitting more than two windows in so small space, but I guess that already is a lot more useful than one..?

Yeah 2 applications at the time is probably what I could see fit the screen.
When using an external screen and keyboard though Wink

ddevault (SwayWM dev) already got Sway running on his PinePhone and.. it looks like he's having fun with it.

Find me in the forest, when I'm at my lowest. I don't really think you should continue..
