Adjusting screen resolution lead to a black screen

Hmm, have you tried logging in on console (CTRL+ALT+F2), then
cd .config
mv monitors.xml monitors.xml.bak
=> reboot?

I can't replicate the black screen, so it's a shot in the dark.
