Pinebook 1080p screen with other SBC?
#1
Hello all,

I cracked open my pinebook after I noticed the hindge was opening the case a little bit when opening the lid.  Some of the plastic is broken in many of the screw points, so it got me thinking; what are alternative ways to reuse the hardware in my pinebook.  From the wiki doc on the LCD screen it said that the interface for the screen is an eDP (embedded DisplayPort), but the ribbon cable on the pinebook board is the same size as the DSI interface on a raspberry pi 3b (and others).  But I also noticed that the same cable drives the web camera too.

The cable has the following information on the sticker that was covering the connector:
YD200 LCD Cable
P/N: FPC-C0176
Date code: 18/10/08
Vendor code: XBH

Is there an easy (cheap) way to adapt this to DSI or HDMI input?  I would like to use it with a Retropie setup.

Thanks

I have tested the pinebook without the screen using HDMI out in Android and it was working. The wifi antenna was put back in the bottom case after taking the screen apart. The link is to some pics I took of my open PineBook 1080p.

If anyone knows of what control board works with the Pinebook 1080p screen through HDMI or DSI in I would greatly appreciate a link to the item so I could order it.

Thanks.

So, you say, that on android HDMI out works. Great. Just 2 questions.

Which android version are you using?
Is video HW acceleration working there too?

Thanks.

I was using the only Android release available for the pinebook 1080p on the pine64 wiki. It is Android 6.0, I have played Knights of the Old Republic on it before with an XBox 360 controller, and I also played some Nintendo DS games with DraStic. Games run better on Android than on any Linux build i have tried on this hardware.

I don't know if it was accelerated or not, but I got some of my Android games to run. Soul Caliber and NBA Jam also worked for me ... But with an Xbox 360 controller.
