Debian 9.9. A lot of custom work has gone into this image, so there really wasn't time to update it for Buster.

I'm guessing at some point Debian 10 will be available? Any ideas how long that would be? (1st batcher for PBP, I am no dev but willing to test if I can)

Thx

J

At some point. You can upgrade to Buster manually, but it will break a number of things. If you're interested in figuring out how to fix everything that the upgrade breaks - document it - and share it, then that would be great.

I upgraded manually, and while most things worked, it was noticeably slower.  There was also a drm library conflict that caused the upgrade to fail.  I had to force a purge of the conflicting package before I could complete the upgrade.

In the end I restored the stretch version.  I don't feel like putting in the work to make it work well so I'll just wait Smile

I just received my PBPro, with the debian 9 mrfixit , everything seems fine,

Now I am trying to adduser so I do not normally use the default admin account.

1. I added the new user, and groups to match the rock account.

2. My question is... How do I setup the desktop to basically match the "rock" user desktop?

edit: I tried copying all the hidden "." folders from rock home to the new users home, but the permissions got
all messed up.

Control Center -> Look and Feel -> Mate Tweak

Then Panel , Select "Custom: rock-tweak" Panel

I don't have it in front of me, but I'm sure the desktop has one or more configuration files you could copy.

Go look at the user and group permissions for the old user, then use chown to set them for the new user.

the chown on eveything in the new users home seems to have worked for everything except the firefox profile.  I can't seem to be able to run the "firefox -P" to get into the profile utility.  And the option re-install firefox is not available from the repositories.

Its some way off since, at this point in time, its worthwhile switching to mainline. Give it some time.

Thank you for the reply.  Waiting until after April next year is completely fine, in my opinion.  I understand the level of change involved.  Switching to the Debian distributed ARM kernels from the custom built Rockchip kernel, will be a great thing.  Hopefully there is already a device tree blob (dtb) for the PineBook Pro.
