I also do some light to moderate programming. I have a small Penguinized Chromebook with 4GB of RAM and I'm not sure if I've ver seen it go past 2.5 gigs of usage.
Personally I do view 4GB as a compromise. It's low enough that I expect to feel the lack of RAM from time to time and may have to tune things a little more than usual.
That's said it's a compromise I'm very happy to make since it is a compromise based on the fact that, while the RK3399 is a terrific chip for products like this, unfortunately it isn't capable of talking to more than 4GB of RAM. There's simply not enough choice of chips in this space (and price point) to build something without compromise somewhere.
