Pinebook will not wake from suspend
#1
Hi all. New Pinebook 11.6" 1080p owner here. Smile

I like it so far, but it simply will not wake from "suspend" mode. Doesn't matter if I manually put it in suspend (by hitting the power button to bring up the dialogue) or close the lid (set to suspend). The little green LED comes back on, but there's only a black screen.

Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it?

Running the latest KDE Neon distro it was shipped with.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Smile

I have also noticed that even if I turn off the feature that turns off the display after X minutes, it still turns off the display and will not come back on after, no matter what I do.

Same here.
I tried also to disable the screen locking, as suggested by Luke here https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=6734 but still no luck.
Tried to disable power saving options, no luck (i.e. disabled "when lid is closed," I close the lid, it suspends).
Tried to disable suspend features with systemctl following this guide: https://wiki.debian.org/Suspend no luck.

I followed this guide that found the problem as the screen dimmer misbehaving but... I can't disable it. If I disable the screen dim preference then I close and open again the settings, that preference is on with 10 minutes. It seems that is not possible to disable, it just resets.

Besides, when I shutdown, the Pinebook sometimes doesn't power off so when I power it again the battery is completely drained.

Besides, when I shutdown, the Pinebook sometimes doesn't power off so when I power it again the battery is completely drained.

So here's what I did to fix these issues:

#1. Disable any and all options that log out when the device is suspended, or display is turned off and asks for login upon waking. Turn all that off. There seems to be some issue with turning the display back on and not showing the login screen (only black screen).

#2. Set the "dim screen" time value to something higher than the "turn off screen" time value. For mine, I set the din screen time to 360 minutes (6 hours), because there is also an issue with screen dimming and I don't want that action to be triggered. And I set my screen off time to about 10 minutes (but set this to what ever you want).

You cannot for some reason disable altogether, the options to dim and turn off the screen. As you say, even if you click "apply", once you close and re-open the power settings, they are re-enabled and set to 10 minutes. This is why I left the screen dim on, but set it to the highest value it would allow (360 minutes).

So now, I have tested it; I can close the lid or manually put the device in suspend and it will wake in seconds as it's supposed to. I can also let the screen turn off on it's own and by moving the cursor, the screen comes right back on as it should. I can also allow the screen to time out, then close the lid to put it in suspend, and it wakes back up just fine after that as well.

Another thing to note is for proper shut down; it's better to hit the power button, then click shut down from there and it will properly shutdown the device. Apparently if you use the main menu, then hit the power options and shutdown through that method, it doesn't always execute the proper shutdown procedure. So far, I haven't had any battery draining issues by shutting down from the power button popup menu.

Hope this helps... Smile

MECZero's solution worked for me! Big Grin

** Edit - well, not quite. Works for short duration periods of having the lid closed but the Pinebook still won't revive itself after a longer time (battery still has a charge).
