I have both Rock64 and Firefly roc-rk3328-cc.

I don't like Android TV UI on Rock64,  Android regular UI Firefly roc-rk3328-cc looks good.  But no way to put SuperSU on Android for Firefly roc-rk3328-cc (it is rooted).  No Google Play Store on Firefly roc-rk3328-cc.  Applications used to start an service such as "Auto Start" or "Autostart and Stay!" cannot start the service at boot.

I feel so weird about  Android 7.1.2 on roc-rk3328-cc.   but it is still usable to get and install all apps from APKPure.com

USB3 can only be used with Thumb Drives , but not stable with hard drive for Android 7.1.2 on both Rock64 and Firefly roc-rk3328-cc

For Linux, USB3.0 are stable for both boards: Rock64 and Firefly roc-rk3328-cc.

At least there is a version of Android which can be used with a touchscreen. The one on Rock64 is absolutely unusable with a touchscreen display

I'm absolutely disappointed with this board. The Android images that come with the board are absolutely unusable with touchscreen displays. I bought it with a DAC PoT which also has almost no documentation and support. No mention on which OS-s fully support the DAC. I see that a lot of users are actually interested in a "regular" Android build for this board. There is no way that it cannot be build as there already is a board with the same RK3328 SoC from Firefly which has a regular Android image.
Not trying to insult any of the community members( in fact you guys have been the only support) the official support for the board is very very VERY poor. There is no official comment on why there is no regular Android build for the board. I consider this purchase to be a total waste of money. Each time I try to make the board to work with a touchscreen I almost want to crash it with a sledgehammer. Each time I come back to this forum hoping to get some miracle news, but the only thing I get a disappointment. Each time I take it out from the box thinking "Maybe... the time has come" I go "Nah... It's hopeless" and throw it back for another couple of months. I also have an Odroid board and the developers of the board are quite responsive in their community forums.
The only 2 reasons why I haven't crashed it or thrown in the toilet and flushed the water yet is the respect to all the effort and time that went into designing the board and my overall love to electronics.
Very sad about this situation. I would really love to actively use this board and to see it running in my projects. Yet it is only an effective dust collector for me....

There is no technical limitation. The ROCK64 using TV UI due to the primary video output is connected to TV.

Because there is no Android build without TV UI, are you planning to do one? Not many apps in this country support Android TV and they need side-load, and that's why I prefer regular Android, where the apps can be downloaded via Google Play.

Is there a way to remove the tv ui after its installed?

No way to remove it. That's what this topic about. There is no a "tablet style" Android build available for this board and there is no official statement why despite many users asking for it.

If you are referring to the UI, I am using nova launcher now , perfectly happy with that.

I tired using a launcher. Still there is no status bar or navigation bar, settings menu is different. It's not touchscreen friendly at all. I guess if they at least modify the systemui.apk and add status bar and navigation bar there will be no need to develop a regular Android build at all. Simply changing the launcher would solve almost all the problems (except the different settings menu which is not that terrible)

Im still a n00b to all of this stuff but im actually having fun with my board.

Granted i got mine off Amazon for $7.99 with power supply and SD card

when i found all of the system files to download i must say i was kinda shocked, ther must be a dozen or more systems to install and try.

i feel i got more then i paid for!
