Netrunner 18.03 Idolon for the Pinebook
#11
Been skeptic, but will try out.

Is it possible to install latest version of Kodi and also to setup VPN?
#13
You can get what is in debian testing. Setting up a vpn should be no issue and kodi 17.6 should be in the repo.

Ok, tnx will try out. However on the first look, I would say that it is an diecent image. Hope that you will release some fixes like for an example problems with wifi. Usually people abandon very early os development and then we end up with some new one.

So far my favorit is Armbian it is very fast but you cannot install latest packages so not usable. This one is much slower but hopefully with more newest packages. Will also try to put it on eMMC. Hopefully this could be the best os for Pinebook by my criteria. I am looking for os that can be installed, work fast and have newest packages. Do I ask to much? I wouldn't think so. Smile

Wow, Kodi is working and VPN also! I am now very happy. Will try to put it on eMMC and finally I can start using my Pinebook. Thank you and looking forward to new releases, keep up the good work.

Managed to put it on eMMC and it is working fine. Is it possible to get more speed? I know that KDE is looking very nice and because of that everything is a bit laggy.
#17
Plasma runs in Xrender mode. You get a smoother experience with OpenGL2.0 though that runs through OpenGL ES which has some graphical glithces still which is the reason it isn't activated by default. Also keep in mind that a slow microSD card cannot perform wonders. So a faster microSD card (Class 10 maybe even A1 specified) will help here aswell.

When it comes to updates. Yes we plan to do updated versions and fix some stuff.
The wifi issue some report has to do with the wifi card randomly getting a new MAC address. For security reasons maybe a nice feature but confusing for network-manager.

We came up with a fix that you might want to try. Simply setting a static Mac Addr. by executing as root
Code:
echo 'options 8723cs rtw_initmac=00:81:c1:55:17:0a' > /etc/modprobe.d/8723cs.conf

If this helps it will be incooperated in our next image.

Cool, will try suggested fix.

I am using eMMC so speed should not be related to microSD, or...? Are there any tweaks that can be done on the system itself like turning off animations to reduce lagging?
#19
You can set animations to instant so there shouldn't be any delay.
#20
Wow, now everything is flying, great. Thank you for the tip. If someone is interested you can put it to instant at this location: System Settings > Hardware > Display and Monitor > Compositor > Animation speed.
