External hard drive problem
#11
I followed these steps: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?...7#pid32107

I added "options usb-storage quirks=0x174c:0x55aa:u" to /etc/modprobe.d/rk3328-usb-storage-quirks.conf. But it is still doesnt work without turning on and off the hard drive on USB 3.0.

Connecting the ExternalHD to the USB2.0 port works immediately.

I'm on: jessie-openmediavault-rock64-0.6.30-208-armhf.img

Code:

So it isnt a problem with this specific external HD.

Any help?

It appears that this problem with HDD not being detected on USB 3.0 happens only to 3.5" drives only.

This model? http://www.orico.cc/goods.php?id=6310  It has the same chipset as the vendor USB3 SATA connector (link).

When your external hard drive is not detected in Windows Explorer then you may check it in the Disk Management. To check & repair your Toshiba hard drive, follow the below step:
  • Type disk management in a search bar & right-click on unallocated space and select “New simple volume” >> “next
  • Choose the volume size >> “next” again
  • Assign the Hard drive letter & path >> next to complete the process
  • Next, click on “next” >> “new simple volume” >> “finish” option
  • Wait until the process finishes.
I hope the steps mentioned above will definitely help you to fix Toshiba external hard drive not showing up.

My PinePhone would not detect either a USB hard disk drive or SD card USB adapter when plugged into my dock so I was going through the suggestions in this thread. Although I've always hot plugged the dock into the PinePhone first and then connected the USB device afterwards (keyboard and mouse) and they were detected and immediately usable, this did not work with USB drives.

I found that the USB hard disk and USB SD card adapter both worked perfectly if I reboot the PinePhone after connecting the powered dock to it. After the reboot, I plug-in the USB drive. I'm running Mobian (https://images.mobian-project.org/pineph...113.img.gz) and I last did a apt get dist-upgrade about a week ago.

I post here just in case someone stumbles upon this thread and finds the above information helpful.

I bought a USB C Charger, "FIVOF 65W GaN Tech Fast Charging", from Amazon (not currently available) a month ago and I've not had trouble with either my SD cards, USB DVD drives, or my Seagate USB hard disk since then. I don't know if it is the cure, because I also apt dist-upgrade daily but my dock USB connection has been working great since I upgraded my power supply to 65W from the previous power supply that came with my old Motorola G4-plus. I had to get a new USB-C to USB-C cable for the new charger too.
