Linux on Rock 64

borisacomputers, if you continue being hostile to other forum members then I'll lock this thread and issue a warning.

I have not partaken in this thread because I simply do not understand what your issue is.

Here is what I do not understand:

Quote:The Raspberry PI is different, because on first boot it gives the option to run it live or install it.

Raspbian comes with a stock user (pi) and password (raspberry); the Rock64 too comes with a stock user and password (rock64/rock64). You do not install Raspbian because there is no internal memory on the device to flash it too, it runs of off the SD card. The exact same is true for the Rock64 (* unless you've got the eMMC module then there are SD -> eMMC images that install the OS to your eMMC. That said, the principal is the same here, be it SD or eMMC).
Quote:With the Rock 64 and Ubuntu Mate or Debian Stretch, its only a live CD version, i cant change passwords, cant add users, nothing.

There is no such thing as 'live version' --- I assume you mean as in a 'live cd / usb' you have on x86 devices. The image you flash to your SD / eMMC module is the OS you run. Its the same on RPI for that matter. You can always add new users from CLI and you can also add new users from DE; for see this thread for more information (its for the Pinebook, but the principal is the same on the Rock64 running Mate).
As a side-note, if you wish to  run a desktop environment then you've got quite a few to choose from; please read this thread
Quote:I downloaded Rock 64 version of Etcher

There is no such thing. Are you referring to the PINE64 Installer ? Its just a utility to help you get started and fetch stable images (so that new users don't run pre-release OS'). You can as well get any other image you'd like that's been developed for the Rock64 (e.g. Armbian) and flash it using win32imager, DD or any other such utility.
Now, I honestly do not understand what sort of stuff you're missing, but I am getting the gist that you're rather inexperienced with both Linux and SBCs. If you need/ would like a tool to assist you in setting up your Rock64, then you can either use Armbian (NB the OS image is in testing stages) OR use one of the Linux images provided by ayufan and follow one of many tutorials for setting up new users and services that are available online (see also the tutorial sections on this forum and project section on the WiKi).

I didnt even knew about that etcher fork, isnt that for the pine64 board? or does it also work with the rock64? i googled a bit about the tool and nowhere it say that it works with the rock64 too...
Assuming it does support the rock64 i have no idea how to help him because i have no idea what images it uses, im assuming that it uses the ayufan ones, if so the commands for users and passwords are the same as with ANY linux distro, exactly the same you use on the oficial raspbian as example...

The utility supports all current (and future) boards/devices.
