uSD Breakout

Originally inspired by this thread I've decided to make a simple open source breakout PCB with some additional peripherals, essentially it's in the same form factor as a micro sd card, so it will be able to slot into the side of the pinebook giving the user access to some low level GPIO.

I'm just getting started now, I'll be posting updates in this thread as well it's possible to track the commits here.

Check out the github readme for the initial conception + peripherals list.

If you're interested in the project or have ideas/suggestions/feedback I would love to hear them!

Anyone with Solidworks or FreeCAD experience - would it be possible to get this model "flattened" ie: DXP from the top down? If not I should be able to figure it out. Figured I would ask to see if anyone can do it really quick.

Chugging along, Threw the schematic together tonight, It's by no means finalized. Using 1.27mm pitch headers, would standard pitch be better? What's the best way to wire up the shift registers? Trying to make it as flexible as possible

Alright - I've made some more changes, the schematic is nearly done. It took me a while to get the Padi Stamp part made - I'm still not sure about the size of the EP in the middle (I just guessed it was 5mm x 5mm) I looked through the man couldn't find anything on it...

Anyways so it's getting considerably larger. Would like feedback/input on:

  1. Wiring of the shift registers
  2. Pin header pitch - 1.27mm okay?
  3. Do we need to breakout all the pins of the stamp?
  4. Connect up the SPI lines to the stamp?

I would replace the HC595/HC165 with an MCP23S17 SPI GPIOs expander, that will allow all GPIOs to be bidirectional.

Yes, good idea;  I'm stuck in my paradigm(s).  Most of my projects need one of each;  but it would be nice to have both be bi-directional; indeed.

Will do! That's a pretty awesome little part - will solve some of my problems with the chip select etc...

Interrupt lines could be useful. I think i'll break them out as well.
