Rock64 as a retro-gaming console: early impressions
#21
I played the same sequence on android. I feel that performance is better on android after all. But this is not a fair comparison since I am comparing two different emulator cores too. Perhaps performance would be even better using a stand-alone Mupen64 emulator on Android --- I won't be testing that however.

As a side-note, new Lakka image (22/10/2017) has been released for those willing to test.

Which emulator do you recommend for PSX1 games for RockBox that supports (BT) keyboard?

Matsu Player is good and fast, but does not support keyboard, only the controllers.
Retroarch is unusable because it does not respond to keyboard and mouse at all.

I had no issues with my K400 in Retroarch. In general, I have no interest in stand-alone emulators, so don't know which one delivers best performance.
All controllers I tried (3xCheap-o brands, Xbox 360, PS3, Buffalo, 8BitDo) worked fine in Retroarch - so if you have any controller that should work just fine.

Try unplugging and plugging in again the keyboard once Retroarch starts.

I have no controller except my keyboard and replugging does not solve anything.
I really do not understant that, cause all other emulators work.

I see that these tests were originally ran on a Rock64 with 2gb of memory and emmc storage, but would performance be similar with the 1gb version? It seems like emulation is mostly cpu intensive and I thought this soc would be a good candidate since its a bit faster than an Rpi3, at least I think I've read this chip is a quad core at 1.5ghz while the Rpi3 is at 1.2ghz

It will perform on par with the RPI 3 for the most part. I have been playing with many boards recently, and basically unless you have a much more capable CPU/ GPU combination you wont be playing N64 smoothly. What console games do you want to play ?

Just for curiosity is R64 able to handle Dreamcast and GameCube emulation?

Thanks!

Nope. You'd need a rk3399 box for Dreamcast and an Nvidia shield for smooth(ish) GC emulation.
