New Pinebook 14'' does not boot from sd card
#1
I recently received the pinebook.
One of the first things I did was to flash an android image to a sd card (8 GB) using the PINE64 Installer.
Did not boot from the sd card. With any other os I flashed - pinebook did not boot from sd card.
Tried to turn into FEL mode (long press and then at least 3 short taps), did not work.
All in all, pinebook booted the eMMC image unless I did.
The sd card slot is working: If booted with the eMMC image OS I can read any sd card I plug into.

So I removed the eMMC and tried to boot from sd card, failed also. But switched into FEL mode.

I currently haven't build a serial console (via audio) connector cable (missing parts) to see what's happening while trying to boot from sd card.

My questions:
- Does anybody struggled into the same behaviour? Or what's wrong with sd cards the pine installer flashes?
- What are the FEL key's? Or how do I force the pinebook without removing the eMMC into FEL mode?

Did you select "Pinebook" in the dropdown during image selection in the installer?

I have to admit I did start having issues with some of the SanDisk microSDs (the class 10 red and grey ones) that I would usually use for short term testing. I've switched over the Samsung EVO cards and have had no issues as yet, and a serious performance boost. My advise is to get yourself one, verify it to make sure it's not a fake or faulty, and then try again.

Also, can you be more specific... if you only get a blank screen, then it's either a faulty card, or a bad/wrong image. If you get the boot logo, it's probably a faulty card... I would often get the boot logo, but the system would just lock up, and my serial console would be reporting card errors (although the cards would pass verification, so it seems the pinebook just didn't like them).

My problem has solved. My 128gb Samsung sdxc replaced to an Sandisc 16gb sdhc and it works well.

Very good hint, thanks! As I now could access the console (via switched "audio" plug), I saw, that my microSD card wasn't recognized during boot0. And - it is a ScanDisc class 10 grey one. So I'll get another microSD (Samsung EVO) and keep you all informed.

@xalius according "Did you select "Pinebook" in the dropdown during image selection in the installer?" -> yes I did. And also plugged in power ...

32GB SDHC are working, SDXC not.
So Samsung 32GB EVO SDCD works, ScanDisk 64GB SHXC not, ScanDisk 32GB SHDC works ...

Seems, that SDHC cards are working, SDXC not.

Confused Huh

Hm... that's interesting... I was getting hit and miss results with the Sandisk 8 and 16G SDHC cards I was using... and as you suggest, no luck at all with the 64GB SDXC Sandisk card... so moved to the Samsung Evos (16 & 32GB) and haven't had any issues at all since. Maybe I should get a Samsung EVO 64gb to test that, as that will bump it over toe SDXC again...
