Z-Wave module pinout to make it compatible with Pi b+
#41
hi, thank you kindly; this diagram (although a tad large) is helpful; your efforts confirm that the module is active via the uart only; the only other pins being used are 3v3v+ and ground ( - ).

Thanks

Isn't 3,3V?? As indicated

If someone wants to start taking apart and reassembling the components then it should be by choice but it should not be necessary.

hi Yomet,  your expenditure falls into one of two camps: 1) you supported the kick-starter, if which case you purchased nothing, but infact invested in Pine Inc as a startup, the rewards for which were "kit components" but certainly not a finished product,  or 2) you purchased "components" from the Pine Store amounting to unassembled "kit components" but again certainly not a finished product.  This is simply an undisputed fact.

In any case , clearly these "components" were never tested together and no promises were made ( that I can find ) that gaurantee that all of these components will actually "go together" as a finished "kit" let alone a formal polished product.

[... Marketing talk ...]

As a side-bar , I consider soldering ( as also programming ) to be a life skill that people in the 21st century should know and practice;  I realize that not everyone will agree.

It's hardly too much to ask. If you bought something advertised and priced as a kit rather than individual pieces, wouldn't you expect them to fit together? If you buy a new car that comes with a spare tire you expect the spare tire to fit, no matter if the car comes from the world's biggest maker or a garage startup company.

I connected it to the pi connector of a raspberry pi b+ without the two resistors and the inductor and it works really well under domoticz see screenshots below (in a french version of domoticz):

So you have just to "take" another GND on the pi b+ gpio connector.

Hope this helps!
Thanks, the diagram will be very useful. Do you have any idea why there are extra components on the adapter?

Not sure where else to post this, but I (finally) received the AU version of the Z-Wave module and ABS case and it looks like they've sorted out the issue with it not fitting - http://imgur.com/gallery/lTZ64

Hopefully have OpenHAB up and running soon!

They got rid of the adapter - that's really good news.    Big Grin

Now the only thing that's left to consider is to minimize the number of pins the Z-Wave module occupies on the PI-2 bus. As j.hoekstra mentioned earlier in this thread this bus can be used for many other things than the Z-Wave adapter and the way it is now fitted occupies the whole bus. According to the job done by ebretteville earlier in this thread the connector could be minimized to use only pins 1-10 by using pin 9 as GND instead of pin 39, leaving 11-40 available for other things. Kind of like the adapter they first pictured in the store, I know that one was using the Euler bus not the PI-2 bus.

Yeah, don't think I'll be using the Pi-2 bus for anything else so won't bother me... but I'd be pretty pissed if I'd planned something based on the images from KS etc.

Well, who'll be the first to offer a replacement adapter? Smile

I wonder why they made the adapter for the PI header rather than the Euler bus?

Well, I'm not sure it qualifies as an adapter... but my cheapie (and extremely flexible!) adapter would probably consist of a set of male to female dupont leads and some double sided tape! Smile And a dremel through the lid if the connectors won't fit under... exposing the whole RPi header while I was at it!

If it is RPi pin-compatible, I think we can all guess the answer there! Would make it a bit more useful also if you have a RPi, as you could swap it between pine64 and RPi if you wanted.

I was more thinking of a small piece of pcb with suitable headers, 2x4 male on top and either 2x17 or 2x4 female below. 2x17 would fill the Euler bus header, 2x4 is all that is needed.

As for RPi compatibility I guess you're right (many of us probably have at least one Pi) but my question is not about a possible add-on hardware compatibility between different SBC families but why they changed from the Euler bus to the Pi bus at all? If the adapter pcb was introduced because of Sigma Design's boycott, why switch bus? It's not like the new module doesn't fit the Euler bus, all you need are two data pins and VCC/GND.
