Star64 questions
#1
I just received a Star64 and I have some questions.

I assumed I could power it by USB-C but apparently there is no such port,
and the power supply was not included. On the product info page there is
not a strong emphasis on this detail, and there is no suggestion that I should buy
a power supply with the Star64. It's not a "related product". I feel this is
an oversight. But the question now is, if the only possibly compatible
AC adapter that I have is only 2 amps at 12 V, will that suffice?

Secondly, is there any official support from a major distro that would
be applicable to this board, given that it uses a well known processor?

It will probably boot up, but don't expect you can attach a whole bunch of devices, which need power from the device.

I wouldn't count on it. People who buy the device now are (more) expected to help make that a reality.

So far, I’ve been using a 1.5A ps without any issues, but no other devices connected to it that would draw additional power, and haven’t really stressed it much.

The board is very similar to the starfive viisionfive 2, to the extent that the pre-flashed firmware has a number of visionfive strings present in it.

I’ve successfully booted the visionfive 2 Debian image on the board, but Ethernet seems to have an odd issue where it refuses to dhcp, but will static assign an address fine.   I’m assuming the Ethernet implementation is different enough to matter.

I haven’t tried the recently released Ubuntu for visionfive 2 yet.  That may be on tap for the coming weekend, but I know that @Fishwaldo has put a lot of work into a yocto image built specifically for the star64:   https://github.com/Fishwaldo/meta-pine64

I'll try that too. I just got a 3A power supply in the mail.
I wonder though if my Star64 has the issue with the USB excessive power usage being detected incorrectly. If so, Ubuntu will probably shut down the USB controller.

I'm currently running the plasma image, which is surprisingly limited. I think this may lead me to try to build a distro myself.

A couple more questions.
* Has anyone here managed to cross compile the 5.15.107 kernel? If I recall, this is what is in the latest image.
* Has anyone seen that the "unicode" terminal app in the Plasma corrupts video memory? Konsole seems to work fine though.
