Months ago, I was using an longsleep's kernel image, and tweaked the DT to enable SPI and I2C by simply changing their statuses from "disabled" to "okay" directly in the main DT.
But since then, I've moved with Armbian build where I've contributed to add the the DT overlays functionalities, so it is now as simply as loading an overlay to change those status from "disabled" to "okay".
