@Rocklobster with SkiffOS and Buildroot we are working towards the goal of an extremely minimal and, more importantly, reproducible system: flash & forget w/ some amount of pre-configuration baked in, and simplified over-the-air update.
This is where it is different from armbian, which uses the usual approach of a package manager, mutable / filesystem, no pre-config, and full-disk images as the main backup / restore approach (checkpointing).
