Solutions to modem / connection problems
#1
For people trying to use the Pinephone as a daily driver, the biggest showstopper appears to be the modem with its quirks and crashes.

There are many stories about many problems, sometimes along with workarounds and fixes, spread all over the forum and often difficult to find.

I would therefore like to ask you:

Which modem problems did you have, that -- now comes the important part of the question -- you could solve or minimise and how did you do it?

To answer your question - I haven't resolved any issues with my modem mainly because I haven't really had any!

My main problemette with the modem is (currently) it drops the data connection every couple of hours. On my home network it usually recovers pretty quickly (seconds) - when I am roaming it can be much more painful (5 minutes) and/or need a reboot. As I am usually on my home network it is very much an observation rather than a show stopper.

For completeness I flashed to 01.002 way back
Code:
journalctl -b | grep EG25GGBR
Dec 09 21:27:50 mobian eg25manager[509]: Response: [EG25GGBR07A08M2G_01.002.01.002\r\n\r\nOK]
and
Code:
uname -a
Linux mobian 5.15-sunxi64 #1 SMP Thu Nov 25 14:39:58 UTC 2021 aarch64 GNU/Linux
  • ROCKPro64 v2.1 2GB, 16Gb eMMC for rootfs, SX8200Pro 512GB NVMe for /home, HDMI video & sound, Bluetooth keyboard & mouse. Arch (6.2 kernel, Openbox desktop) for general purpose daily PC.
  • PinePhone Pro Explorer Edition, daily driver, rk2aw & U-boot on SPI, Arch/SXMO & Arch/phosh on eMMC
  • PinePhone BraveHeart now v1.2b 3/32Gb, Tow-boot with Arch/SXMO on eMMC

i found something, it's not total fix though. https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?...#pid103530

shortly: edit file "/usr/lib/udev/rules.d/80-modem-eg25.rules" and change ATTR{power/control}="auto" into ATTR{power/control}="on". tested on manjaro arm linux. most likely will have side effects like wasting battery.
