KDE connect SMS bridge to-from PC
#1
I have always appreciated HeySMS on the Nokia N900
https://github.com/titilambert/HeySms/
It lets me use a Bonjour protocol window in Pidgin IM to bridge to the app and send/receive SMSs which is still a useful mode for many users.
I remembered that the KDE team had made a nice app to do a similar bridge for Android phones.
I am guessing that a script and daemon to listen for KDE connect over wifi or bluetooth would not be too difficult.
For heavy SMS users or people wh need to machine translate incoming and outgoing SMSs on a Linux or even Win/Mac computer this might be the closest we can get to ready made requiring not much dev code recycling for client and server.

There's an unassigned task for the necessary plugin for this to work in plasma-mobile:
https://phabricator.kde.org/T8684
It would probably benefit a subset of laptop users to have a 'desktop' version too - those with internal modem cards or using USB dongles for mobile.

Given that plasma-mobile uses oFono rather than ModemManager it's unlikely to work with Phosh when/if someone picks it up, but I suppose they might be willing to accept something that could work with whichever was present. Getting GSConnect working with Phosh and adding a similar plugin seems a better idea, but last I looked (some time ago now) GSConnect needed some gnome shell functionality that phosh hadn't implemented, so kdeconnect was actually better.
