Backing up Contacts
#1
How do I back up my contacts? I looked into the app list on the Mobian Wiki but it does not have it listed. I plan on making a copy and sending it to my Desktop PC via mtp.

The contacts are stored in an Evolution database file. Back up ~/.local/share/evolution/addressbook/system/contacts.db. I thought though that mtp was no longer working in Mobian. (I usually use scp or sshfs to transfer files.)

As per @Zebulon Walton for the actual location of the database.

I use rsync from my RockPro64 to maintain a copy of my complete PinePhone home directory on my PC disk: the phone is plugged in most times when I am on the PC to provide internet via tethering so simple to run regular "backups".
  • ROCKPro64 v2.1 2GB, 16Gb eMMC for rootfs, SX8200Pro 512GB NVMe for /home, HDMI video & sound, Bluetooth keyboard & mouse. Arch (6.1 kernel, Openbox desktop) for general purpose daily PC.
  • PinePhone Pro Explorer Edition Tow-boot on SPI, Arch/SXMO on eMMC
  • PinePhone BraveHeart now v1.2b 3/32Gb, daily driver Tow-boot with Arch/SXMO on eMMC

I attempted to get mtp working and well I give up on it right now, in fact I just find  my Pinephone not suitable for daily driver material.

I've used FileZilla to transfer info instead of MTP. It certainly isn't as fast but I'm sure your DB is fairly small so it would probably only take a few seconds.

After experiments with Vdirsyncer, Syncthing and Nexcloud, I opted for a rather straightforward method:

On my laptop I have bookmarked the directories

sftp://mobian@192.168.0.98/home/mobian/.local/share/evolution/addressbook/system

and

/home/anna/.local/share/evolution/addressbook/system

in order to simply drag the file contacts.db from one directory to the other.

How can I import this database file on another system? Just placing it in the specified directory didn't do anything. I need to import my contacts on another device.

You can install Evolution and export your contacts from there as VCF, then import them anywhere else.
