Any developments at all?

Hey guys,

Back in den beginning of the age of PBP there was talk about an Android 9 build being put together, however since then I have not heard or seen any more news regarding the Android front (and the android 7 builds that were up on the wiki also seem to have mysteriously vanished from there). Is there anyone who is working on Android related projects for PBP at all?

it doesn't seem like there is, unfortunately. though, it may be possible to get GloDroid going for the PBP, since it's built on the mainline kernel (which pretty well supports the PBP.) If anyone wanted to under take this, I'd even be happy to provide them with access to a server of mine so they can save their own local processing and storage for other stuff.

Concerning the links for the Android imgs on the wiki, that was done in a pretty over zealous act (in my opinion.) Some people on the wiki went on a spree and removed links to every PBP img that was not under active development. (Kinda funny no one went after ALL the other imgs for Pine projects w/o active development, like for the Rock64 or A64.) If you go to the Software Releases page for the PBP and check through the page history, you should be able to find those links. You can also search this subforum, there was really only one working/bootable Android img, and I provided direct links to it in several threads.

The ones on the wiki were working for me as well, after I swapped default u-boot for mrfixits' u-boot android started to work. Thing is , no root, no gapps on 7. I'd love for a more recent build and am dreaming of having the flexibility we have on other devices with thriving custom rom scenes Tongue

it would be nice to have some options in roms! maybe we'll get lucky and someone on XDA will pop something out (i imagine they're aware of the PBP and potential to run Android.)

Not the same thing, but I recently saw a video of the Linux tablet JingPad running some Android apps.
Performance looks way better than standard Anbox.
Apparently they use WayDroid (formerly Anbox-Halium).
Who knows that will be another option in the future to run Android apps on the Pinebook Pro.

an anbox competitor using android 10? i've got to try that out! time to fire up the server and try building their anbox img (pity it's not in the aur yet)

just dipped into #poinephone, and it looks like danct is checking waydroid out, too. so we may see it available in the danctnix repos if it's deemed suitable

Found a video of someone playing Minecraft through WayDroid on a Pinephone (3GB).

Not what I am hoping/wanting for my PBP, but neither the less interesting. Let's see if we can get this going.

(btw the url is not clickable becaise the @ f*cks up urls, when posting urls I reccommend using the [ url] tags either manually or using the button in the editor.)

That also gives you the option to make your urls like this. (Same link, but now clickable)

Edit: the @ also f*cks up the tags, apparently ?

this is most recent info regarding installing waydroid on danctnix (arch):

https://fosstodon.org/@xaviers/106936888809418637
Quote:Installation instructions:
sudo pacman -S waydroid-image
sudo waydroid init -f
sudo systemctl enable waydroid-container --now

and this reddit post has info on installing it to images not using boot/boot.txt, though the pkg link is dead, so the package would need to be grabbed from another repo.
