inner earpiece speaker replacement
#1
Hi,

I dropped my Pinephone a few days ago and have realised the inner earpiece speaker (not the main speaker at the bottom) has stopped working. I removed the mother board and reconnected everything but that hasn't changed anything.

This thread https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=12046 has internal earpiece (and external) info:

Earpiece dimensions: 12x6x2 mm. Compatible with Xiaomi Mi2 / Mi3 / Mi4, Lenovo A536 and others.

What exactly am I looking for and can it be replaced without soldering? Apparently a fall is enough to break them.

I want to make sure I'm ordering the right part from e.g. ebay / amazon and that I can replace it.

Thanks!

I presume this would work https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32849543193.html

I think it just fits into the slot for the existing earpiece speaker and the metal contacts sticking out will work with the existing phone, no soldering required.

If anyone has a link for the speaker phone, I might get a spare just in case as shipping from China is really slow! Cheers.

And the 3mm deep speaker e.g. from here https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32774466647.html ?

I have successfully replaced the earpiece speaker. The two metal contact 'prongs' were thinner and not angled up as much so I bent them up slightly with a screwdriver.

I do get audio out of the earpiece but with the audio testing left and right speaker the volume is very low, definitely less than the original speaker. I thought the impedance / resistance would be the same and hence volume, too. It would be nice if Pine64 actually specified the exact compatible replacement part.

Anyone know what I can use with Manjaro Phosh to boost audio output beyond 100%? They don't use pulseaudio so pavucontrol doesn't work.

I'm don't know much about Pipewire (maybe try with pactl?), but have you checked if it might be a physical problem? Maybe the metal prongs don't make good contact or the speaker grill (if there is one) is dirty.

I tried with the second replacement earpiece speaker (same model) but the unfortunately result is the same. The motherboard contacts don't look evenly coloured/smooth but that is presumably where the original speaker made the contacts. Speaker contacts are fine otherwise there would be no sound. No dirt.

Upon reassembly the on/off button no longer does anything - I'll open another thread for that. Disappointed.

I set the volume to 150% using
Code:
pactl set-sink-volume 0 150%
but that didn't change anything.
