I don't know if I have problems with modem as I have just replaced the mainboard yesterday.
I think a year ago it could easily became extremely hot, now it is simply really hot.
Anyway, I think a general smartphone does not heat up to around 50 degree Celsius at around 21 degree Celsius room temperature when simply looking at its display and a terminal program... or who knows...
However, open source version seems to be really good once it will have full and stable functionality.
They seem to manage modem's CPU frequency in a way it may run much cooler, I hope it will be the final and complete solution in the near future.
Anyway, what you feel cooler may be related to the newer firmwares discussed here?
What firmware are you using?
