IMHO Debian + Phosh is the current pick of the bunch. Phone calls (in & out), SMS (in & out), incoming phone ring all work out of the box, as does mobile data.
One huge caveat: as I write this there is a hiccup with the release that means it (probably) hangs wile booting - hopefully will be resolved soon. I can break the hang by logging in via ssh, for a fresh install dont think there is any option as openssh is not included in the build (I added it a week ago before the hang problem).
