A quick tutorial on having the image work its best

This is probably a good place to ask, will `apt-get update && apt-get upgrade` typically be sufficient to keep the image up to date? In other words, if I run that every day, will I be in essentially the same position as if I downloaded & flashed the latest build to the SD card every morning? I ask because coming from the Android world, updating could be... "finicky"
