Battery case and power question

The battery case came and has 2 copper wires just floating over the battery area, do these need to be attached to anything? They are "glued" together...

the 2 copper wire with thermistor on tip is for temperature sensing, just place close to the batteries.

Will the battery kick in when it detects usb power fluctuations or should I set it up to run off battery and just use the usb to charge the battery? How would I ser it up like that?
