Frankly PayPal worked better for me than any other options, and seems more secure.
I have a few small issues with Pine64, but leaning on PayPal is not one of them. That said, my obtaining a PayPal account was painless, and had I had issue with them my opinion might match yours.
I am sorry that you had a poor experience!
