Keep Wifi Connection alive
#1
So I've posted about this issue here before; tried some things, still having same problems.

The short of it is that the wifi sucks on this device (or in Debian). I received the Debian 9.12 release early this year, having pre-ordered I believe around October of last year. Did all the related update stuff, etc. to get it running.

The only way I can keep a consistent connection on the device is that I have created a bash script that starts automatically at login, running an ongoing ping to yahoo.com. It runs in the background and when it is running, wireless works good. If that ping dies for some reason, soon the wifi drops and will not connect again. It was the only solution I could come up with to just get this thing to stay on the network.

I specifically ping the domain name (yahoo.com) to verify DNS resolution, which is odd. If I run a regular IP ping, it will work, but not as quickly as when I resolve DNS first; even pinging on my own network. However, opening a browser and going to yahoo.com or another website doesn't seem to pull off the same "kick-start" that the ping is doing; it won't resolve and display the page.

So, I'm open to any suggestions about a better OS to run, or something to make this thing run as it should. Love the hardware, I just think that the release with Debian 9.12 has been ....whatever. Sad
