Bricked Pinebook?
#1
I've tested a few versions of OS'es on the Pinebook so far, and it's been a fun little machine. But two days ago, I was going to install the lates Mate edition, and it stopped writing to eMMC at 30%. I tried again several times, but to no avail. Now it won't boot from SDCard OS'es, and no Linux installers go past 30%. The Android installer just has a blank screen and seems like it just dies. If I try booting it without an SDCard, the screen stays blank with backlight. If I try with any SDCard, regardless of image, the Pinebook logo shows with a contributor greeting on the bottom, but nothing else.

I ordered a 32 gig eMMC a while ago (some 3 weeks), so I'll try changing that once it arrives.

Halp?! Anyone got suggestions to what I should try to wake the Pinebook from it's slumber?

Edit boot.scr (generated from boot.cmd) and disable eMMC completely when booting from SDcard.

But it should still boot from sdcard just fine? I have random things on my eMMC and that never was an issue so far... head over to chat maybe and we'll see if we can figure something out Smile
Come have a chat in the Pine IRC channel >>

Disabling emmc worked. Probably an error on the chip. I can check at work next week.

You might be able to wipe the chip; and start over.

That's what I would have thought, but it could be locking something up because things are corrupt, or perhaps if the eMMC is not responding properly at all. Hence why disabling it completely seems to 'cure' it.

Yeah. I hope so. Since the pinebook won't boot with it enabled, I guess I need some kind of adapter. The one we had at work until recently, has been returned to the computer forensics lab, meaning it's out of my reach for quite some time. Can any of you recommend a USB to eMMC-adapter/bridge?

I dont know if its compatible...but the only eMMC adapter I know is the one from Hardkernel (Odroid Computers),
which is a eMMC to MicroSD adapter:

and here is a picture of the backside from the Pinebook eMMC (seems to match) :

Guidol, yea me too.

Anyways, CaptainZalo why not just boot up from SD and then format the eMMC (it mounts on boot) ? See if that gives you any errors. If it doesn't then try reflashing eMMC

edit: Or try put it into FEL (using ayufans boot-tools) and reformat eMMC
You can find me on IRC, Discord and Twitter

I ordered an eMMC-to-µSD adapter. I'll need it for one of my other projects anyway. The pinebook is happily running android 7.1 at the moment, and my (3 year old) son is hogging it.
