Quartz64 Model B release date?
#1
Is there a tentative release date yet for the Quartz64 Model B?  Will purchasing be available through your website?  Will there be Linux OS software available for this SBC when it is released?  Armbian with support?

In the May update in the middle of this month, I think there will be an update for release date for Quartz64 Models A and B.

When the boards become available to buy they will be on the Pine64 store. As the above blog mentioned, changes for the Linux kernel have been mainlined so distributions for the Quartz64 need to be compiled, tested etc to become available. I presume that will include Armbian.

Thank you kindly.  needless to say, I'm very excited about the Quartz64 Model B.

The May update was sort of a dud.  What's the story on the release date?

The May update concerning Quartz64 seemed clear up what to expect for availability. If checks on the replacement ethernet device show green then production will commence (end of May) meaning devices will become available in June hopefully. However, this production run for June is targeted at developers and anyone else that can help mature the software and possibly the hardware as well. The kernel modifications will also need time to propagate to the distributions.

Realistically, I look to July or later to add a Quartz64 to my "play thing" collection.

Up to you really -- you could try to snatch one in June, it's an option.

Thank you again lot378. I'll be looking forward to independent reviews hitting some time after the general release in July. Upon general release will the 8GB RAM memory version be among the choices, or will that one follow sometime later?

I just received my first of 2 QUARTZ model A with 8GB models. Software selection is very limited but that's not a big deal if you accept the likelihood that you are testing a new device. Will try to test some builds on it maybe help work out some config stuff (not much of a programmer but i have been involved in thousands of unix builds, either end-to-end or as a config engineer).

It took about 2 weeks between the order and it arriving so it was quicker than I epected. customs hold often takes that long.

So what I'm getting at is they have had one version ready to go for at least a couple of weeks in terms of production. Given that the tendency is to get the hardware out when it is still fairly primitive in terms of software, within a month seems pretty plausible for QUARTZ B, maybe closer than that though we might hear a little later as our fearless leader Lukas is taking a well-deserved bit of time off
------
it doesn't get happy
it doesn't get sad
it just runs programs
