Temps could be better but hey, so could life.

I'll be getting a "fan shim" that'll keep my 4 nice and cool...

My first impressions are it's a lot better hardware wise than any pine64 board and the software is just magical!

Couldn't be more happier if I tried. Wink

That would be interesting if you had data to support comparisons with specific Pine64 boards. Otherwise your post is irrelevant and a waste of electrons.

Sorry; don't you know how to Google?
I have said this before and I'll say it again; no one can beat the software from RaspberryPi; fact.

Don't be sorry, searching for information is easy. You are making statements and claiming they are facts, without supporting them with facts. It is your responsibility to provide support for your arguments, otherwise it is just opinion.

Opinion is not fact, nor is it helpful in forums where others look for information and help.

RE: raspberry pi 4 experiences? - stuartiannaylor - 07-18-2019

I have a Pi4 and its untrue about the 'great' software as much when you try still needs patches for the Pi4.

To be honest I am the other way and have given up with Raspbian as much works but not all.
The main reason I have given up is VC4 as the myths about capability and compatibility are totally untrue and been ongoing now since release.
There is a transition where the RK3399 is now a mainline uboot & kernel SoC so its actually not limited to a single distro.
In comparison the Raspbery fan boys are claiming Raspbian is more complete than Fedora, Debian or Ubuntu?
Mainline means we will be native and why I feel Raspberry panicked on the 'not until 2020' raspberry pi and released early.

With mainline the future is an open path with  the RK3399 and from benchmarks cpu wise 20-30% faster and early Panfrost GPU wise +200% and that is before optimisation as development is currently focussed on API completion.
The relative blob free better performing true mainline opensource product is likely to garner more and more support and make the Pi claims look extremely dubious.

The work Auyfan and others have done chipping away at patches that have fed mainline adoption can not be truly underestimated, but 4.4 is approaching EOL currently in transition to mainline and likely to make Pi fans weep.

The shine as already started to wear thin on the Pi 4 and more and more reviews and benchmarks are appearing saying the opposite of its initial claims.
IMHO the Pi4 is a panic stop gap product to what we might see as a Pi5 but currently its not the product that some Raspberry fan boys believe it is.

Its quite reassuring to see them come to the forum with a need to express allegiance over actual working mainline compliance, capability and performance.

RE: raspberry pi 4 experiences? - thatsamtoress - 07-29-2019

In terms of hardware Pine64 has some muscles to compete with, though the support is not yet that polished but with it's continuous growth who knows might be in a year or two community will get bigger as Rpi community or much more. It's just my opinion.
