Have you had a chance to try video playback?
Is the UI still laggy?

RE: A good desktop experience on Rock64 - Gordon McIntosh - 05-12-2018

I have several years of Ubuntu hacking - and have tested the Rock64 media board recently I found that Debian Stretch Mate Community Build works well on the board but then I have a old 16GB SD card and there is 4GB on the board  when I tried Android TV it underperformed and kept faulting and requiring a reset. So I put the Android TV on a new 16GB card and it runs high quality HD even on my old Panasonic (6 Years Old ) and the 4K TV is mind blowing great job with the Rock64 and all the developers well done.    The wifi is a problem on Mate so that may go to github when I remember. I can run synaptic package manager with no problem which may help people with installations of apps.

What WiFi adaptor are you trying to use?
