I have updated the PB description with a completely uneducated and uninformed-ish description of the key layout for both units ...

Yeah, that's why I like the fact that it is kermit-the-frog green... no sarcasm in my post sorry! :-P

Yes, the 11" one looks very similar in layout to that of my Asus Transformer tablet, and a 3rd party bluetooth keyboard for a ALDI tablet. If the Pinebook keyboard is anything like the one for one of the Asus Transformer (which it sounds like it will), it will be a a very comfortable to use keyboard.

I deleted my previous post as I now know a bit more - including an estimate of shipment costs. Will update the initial post with more details shortly. I updated the post.

Yeah, customs can be a bit painful at times. Some of the better/bigger kickstarters have had arrangements with logistics firms such as DHL to absorb the customs fees when more than a certain amount, and thankfully Australia has a reasonably import duty free threshold ($1000) as opposed to that stupid £15 (or £39 gift) that the UK has. However, our money grabbing politicians are seeking to end that... as they feel why shouldn't they also get more money for doing nothing (except what our taxes already pay them to do).

btw Luke, in case you didn't know, whilst having a Paypal account can be beneficial, it is no way required to pay for stuff by paypal (unless the payment recipient has change the default settings from optional to required)... you can pay using a credit or debit card using paypal without an account.

pfeerick, thank you! I didn't know you could make a paypal payment without an account - I edited the description Smile

Regarding customs, I chose not to include speculative or potentially misleading info in the main post, but it seems that some have gotten away with not paying import tax for the engineering prototypes shipped to the EU, whilst others ( for instance me Tongue ) had to pay. It seems that it varies from one country to another when it comes to this stuff.

Good news for those of you who signed up for a 14" Pinebook. Ayufan just received his production unit (to my knowledge its the first production PB in the wild) and said that:

Quote:|09:59:31        &ayufan1 | the build quality is very nice
|10:02:02        &ayufan1 | yes, the casing is very rigid

This addresses my only real gripe with the 14" prototype.
This is obviously also also great news for all of us as he can now start developing Android 7 for the production hardware! Big Grin
He also kindly shared pictures of the packaging (looks nice!), assembled unit top and bottom, the unit running (android 6?) and some basic disassembly/ internals, which I am now relaying to you here.

Rigid is a screen, the body with keyboard is still can bent, as it is empty plastic. Still, nice quality Smile

Because some people don't read the updates to the first post Wink   (please do!)

!N.B.: For the first week only the 14" Pinebook will ship!

Many people are reporting receiving BTO emails today. Apparently shipping for the units is very fast. Once any of you receive their unit, let us know how long it took from the moment you paid to the moment the unit arrived (include the country it was shipped to).

Cheers
