I am using Ubuntu and I have installed libcedrus, libump, libvdpau-sunxi and xserver-xorg-video-fbturbo from the PPA of longsleep, but I can't play videos using the default video player. Even watching a YouTube video at 240p is a bit laggy. Did I make a mistake? What should I do to enable hardware acceleration?

Use mplayer via script in /usr/local/sbin

Yeah, it works. I hope that in future, more codec will be supported and MPlayer will work even not from the shell

You should probably update the mplayer wrapper script as you do not have audio. https://github.com/longsleep/build-pine64-image/blob/master/simpleimage/platform-scripts/mplayer-play.sh
