Hello,

Recently, i changed my internet connection to an optical fiber solution. For my internet connection, i use this wifi adapter bought with my rock64. I expected to get an important increase of the bandwidth, but the results are really bad; the maximum speed is: ~8 MBits for download, ~11MBits for upload althought my connections allows much more (on other computers i get at least 10 times more with wifi). I also tested this wifi adapter on a windows pc, and the performances are bad too.

Some one can explain this, or can recommand another usb2 wifi adapter?

regards

What image are you using?

Any errors in dmesg or syslog?

That wifi adaptor should do 10+MBytes/s
hi,

i use armbian 5.65, but this adapter gives the same bad results on a pc under windows10.
Hi,

some news on  my connections speeds...
I made other tests with armbian bionic 4.4.174 on a SD card and i obtain ~10Mbits/sec in both sens.
Strangely, when i boot from eMMC (ayfan bionic 4.4.132) i get a throughput of ~40 Mits/sec; that's better but it's far away from the results i get on a windows laptop (~200 Mbits/sec).
Why the internet throughput is lower when booting on a SD card Huh

but this is not all.

I also tested the internet throughput using the Gigabit connection. That's better than with wifi but far away from the results i get with (exactly) the same connection on a pc; and once again the throughput is half when booting on the SD card. So, when booting on the eMMC i get ~100 Mbits/sec (<50 Mbits when booting on the SDcard); this connection allows me to get an internet throughput of ~500 Mbits/sec on a windows pc. This is very disappointing from a Gigabit Ethernet interface, so much that one wonders if this is really a Gigabit ethernet interface Sad .

Someone have ideas or advices?

regards
Hi,

here are some complementary informations, especialy concerning the Gigabit ethernet interface.
I made some test using iperf. With the Gigabit interface, i get ~800Mbits/sec with both ayfan bionic 4.4.132 on eMMc and with armbian on a SD; the throughput seems a little speeder when booting on the eMMC but this is not significant. It's reassuring Smile .

Always using iperf, the wifi throughput is ~2 times slower when booting on a SD.
Now concerning the internet throughput, it is always lower than 100 MBits/sec (using gigabit and booting on eMMc) although my internet connection allows 500 Mbits/sec (so 5 times lower), and again 2 times lower when booting on SD.

To resume, the internet throughput is really slow (even with gigabit ethernet), my wifi adaptor is also slow, and booting on a SD reduces by 2 the throughputs except for gigabit ethernet tranfers.

Any comments?
