this would be a gr8 candidate for the pinebook 3 or other pine board !

Assuming you're right, solid state storage (especially if you put in a m.2 SSD) might turn these machines into something that doesn't feel too slow for browsing, and other tasks that aren't too demanding.
Is there a way to expose the GPIO pins of the Rockpro64 over USB or something to have a full GPIO header on the Pinebook?

Do you mean remote GPIO, like here:

Would love to see GPIO options for the Pinebook Pro, especially for internal hacking/diy expansion options.
I was more thinking about exposing the GPIO pins on the board somehow. If I'm not mistaken, the board is more or less the same as that of the Rockpro64 and that one has GPIO

I don't know whether the board for the Pinebook Pro has these ports, but I assume having a way to access them on a laptop with such a form factor would be pretty awkward, and the best solution would be to have some extension cable that you can plug into the laptop. The problem with such approach would be signal integrity, something that matters with high frequency applications like SPI flashing (which would be the most important thing I'd be interested in).
Can't wait for another update!

Me too! Should be another soon!

Will it be possible to pre-order with ANSI on day one, or am I screwed out of the free eMMC upgrade?

I had that same thought when I read the July update
