Hi guys, i'm here to askinf if you know a usable distro (what about android now?) for Pine A64, to run smoothly vlc, streaming, ecc
Thanks a lot
in my opinion you are using the wrong board if you pick pine64 A64 for vlc, streaming, youtube, etc. it's not going to work as correctly as you want it to. it has improved alot since release and ayufan has done a lot of good improvement but that's just going from a "not at all" state to a "maybe, sometimes, depends, kinda, sorta, state" and it is not poor software but poor hardware. but, if it is all you have then try your best to make it work enough.

For media (video) playback... yes, Android is the way to go... Luke will be able to say what version best... pretty sure it's the Android 6.x series from ayufan though for best performance.

For headless server use, I swing between ayufan's xenial minimal and the Armbian builds depending on how reliable I want my pine64 Wink

There is a openHAB 2 image that's ready to go... and there is mention of other people running home assistant on the pine64, so it should certainly be doable.
Ayufan's A6 is by far the best option when it comes to Android.
Is this still the case?

I have been using the old Android 5 version Since it had the best screen tools for overscan (video playback works with the corrected screen) and did not muck up the CEC communication with other devices. When Android 7 was loaded, and plugged into the TV, it absolutely refused to take remote control input to a blue ray player.

Android 7 on the Pine64+ does not play well with other devices plugged into the TV.

Also: Just tested this with Ayufan's Android 6, same problem. Once the android device boots in 6 or 7, the ability to control other devices with a remote via CEC is disrupted. Heck, I think it crashed my TV. I had to restart it.
Ayufan images are ok but try Armbian Bionic. I have a copy running on a 2+ yo A64 no problem.

Use this image for 18.04 mainline kernel
https://dl.armbian.com/pine64/Ubuntu_bionic_next.7z

I didn't load it but the armbian-config program has an entry for home-assistant which probably does not mean hassio.

I have hassio running on a rockchip using docker and that runs fine. Should run on an A64.
