Hi guys I have just received a 4GB version of Rock64 and noticed an issue with the Ethernet port. I have tried all linux distros on the wiki page and whenever the board boots the green LED is lit solid with no cable plugged in. When I plug the cable in only the green LED works and then displays activity. The orange LED does nothing. This indicates to me thst something is not right.

Now I already understand there is no standard to the ways the LEDs are setup but even I know that NO LEDs should even be lit when no cable is plugged in.

The port otherwise functions as it should.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If orange LED is not lit when plugged in, make sure your ethernet cable is a working CAT-6 cable and your router/switch supports Gigabit ethernet.

On my Rock64, when the ethernet cable is not plugged in, only the green is lit.
Thank you for your quick reply. Glad to know I'm not the only one. I have a few other SBCs: Tinkerboard, Odroid C2 and Odroid XU4 and they all show green led as link status and yellow led as activity this is why I thought it unusual for the behaviour to be different on the Rock64.

I also discovered that my old BT Hub 3 only has 100mbs ports so if i connect using cat6 cable and 1000mbs hub the LEDs will behave differently and the yellow one will start working? Sounds bizarre to me.
Funny, I had the same issue and can confirm 's findings. The issue for me is that I initially plugged the Rock64 into a 100mb switch. (I thought that it was gigE.) Everything worked perfectly, but I was perplexed by the lack of a yellow light.

Once into a gigE the yellow led lit normally. (I actually started a thread on this about a month ago.)

Great thank you. Now off to buy a cat 6 cable to plug into my gbe port. Funny though as with a cat5 cable there is no connection at all for some reason. Would have thought it would default to 100mbpsas using lower spec cable.

I just had to have a look as all is ok on my Gig switch which is infront of me.

On my PC its green flashing, green for 100mbs connected and green flashing , orange for 1gbs? Strangely.

On the Rock64 green flashing, off for 100 and green, orange flashing for 1gig.

Ethernet in operation is fine but the led registers seem to be mixed.

Most switches I have used are also the same where green = gig and orange = 100mbs with 1g/100mbs switch.

I think Nics might be vendor choice but my choice is Green flashing, Green = 1gig, Green flashing, orange = 100mbs.
But maybe they are single color LEDS so like so many switches green flashing = 1gbs, orange flashing = 100mbs and swap the other for link status?

My PC nic confused the hell out of me as have never noticed before, used to looking at switches but not the back of a PC.
