Hi
In the presentation video, we can see 4k content. The Android dev is more advanced  and you said in Kickstarter page that Kodi run on Android so i imagine that Android is used on Pine for this 4k video. But on Kodi official page : http://kodi.wiki/view/Android_hardware we don't know what codecs A64 SoC can HW decode.

Do you have any details on codecs currently supported by Kodi on Android (even if they are not fully optimized yet, i totally understand that !) ?

Thanks for all !

The 4K content still need to playback using native player. As per current testing, most of the 1080p MKV files plays well under Kodi and we still test on BD content. 4K HEVC can play in Kodi but jerky due to software decode.
Ok thanks for the info. So if h265 is software decoded, even 1080p HEVC would struggle for the moment.
I hope it will be hard-decoded in the futur, good luck with that, and keep us informed !

In native player, the h265 is hard decode and can play smoothly up to 4Kp30. In Kodi environment, the h.265 still in software decode method.
So i don't know ... Even if the best solution would be a Kodi h265 HW decode... if Kodi doesn't want to support A64 SoC, maybe there is another "media center app" that can be user friendly with a TV remote, versatile (multiple media sources) and can use native player in background to decode video ?

In general, most of the Android media center apps, such as MX player, using native player. I does not imply that Kodi doesn't want to support A64 SoC, it just the current Kodi public release app doesn't have the A64 SoC support yet. In future whether Kodi support Pine A64 platform, it is up to their own priority. However, if Kodi interest to support Pine A64, we definitely interest to collaborate, provide free boards and technical info to them.
All we can do is wait and hope for the best. I'm keeping an eye on Kodi patch notes, and will test Plex if no improvement when we will receive Pine. Thanks for your hard work !

Edit : Plex is not a good solution with a NAS... Not enougth power to encode HEVC. I will see in march, good luck with Kodi Wink
Archos Video (with "All codecs for archos video" app) seems promising, could you test it with Pine on HEVC when you have time ? it can browse and read network videos with its own decoder or use another video app, the first mode is more integrated but the second can be a solution if the first fail. Thanks !

So just to be clear for a not super techy guy. Streaming videos from Kodi is choppy?
