In the requirements I downloaded 64bit 16.04 ubuntu. Then when doing the system setup I installed mate desktop and ssh server when prompted for additional stuff

I was using ubuntu 16.10, but I am installing 16.04 per their guide now. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow. Time for bed now Smile
Sorry again folks, I had to modify my changes so that they would be appropriate for inclusion in the main armbian repository which means my repo is in a little bit of a flux at the moment.
The build currently generated from it does not function so please hold off for a moment.

I'm hoping to have my changes squared away in a couple of hours.
The version I downloaded yesterday is working pretty good. can't seem to find a good working virtual keyboard but its working after all

Ok, repo should be good to go again.
Now there will be a switch: pine64_lcd=on/off in the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file
The default values is off so make sure you change it.

Have you tried Onboard?
sudo apt-get install onboard
I haven't finished compiling the img yet, so I haven't tried it.
Great news! The support is now merged into the armbian main repos so just building from there will include support for LCD/Touchpanel

Thanks for your work on this! I have been waiting for this since I supported the Pine.

Onboard fails to start and florence crashes when you press any key on it.

The only one I have been able to get to work just from repos is xvkbd.

No problem, I'm just happy I could get it to work. Everything was already out there it just needed someone to actually put it all together.
