Installing Brother printer drivers on Manjaro
#1
I have gone around in circles trying to get a couple Brother printers to work on my network.  They are an MFC-J4620DW (color ink jet) and an JL-L2930DW.  Both are less than a year old.  The AUR builds end up with  the drivers 'not available for aarch64 architecture.  I've done some searches for ideas, but apparently, I'm not grasping something ... as all i end up with is my head spinning.  I'm not new to Linux, but am to Manjaro (usually use flavors of Ubuntu) ... I don't seem to be having too much trouble with Manjaro but apparently the aarch64 architecture is.

Thanks in advance.https://download.brother.com/welcome/doc101074/cv_eng_login_password_insertion_a.pdf

You will have to use airprint (ipp everywhere) or driverless,
I have made a number of posts about this
debian has 2 or 3 pages in their wiki
NOTE cups must be 2.2.4 or >, so will not work in stretch
when picking ppd,,, generic-ipp everywhere or generic-driverless
You have to get address right too,, harder if usb connected, designed for network

I took a look inside the AUR build file of the model of my Brother printer (which in my desktop Ubuntu works flawlessly). It seems to download some i368 binary RPM from Brother's website. So no good luck with that, maybe QEMU userland emulation is possible :/

Normally, for a lot of AUR packages that say that they don't support aarch64, it's possible to edit the build file and add 'aarch64' and it would work fine. But only if it's built from source, though.

I was able to get my Brother HL-2240 working for my PBP by using a ppd file from openprinting.org.  Check out their search page to see if you can find your printers (or earlier/similar models), and then try the listed ppd files via CUPS.

Is not the HL-2240 a rather older printer? Maybe 12-14 yrs old?
There are a few brother printers that have been reverse engineered,
and the filter driver compiled for aarch64 or armhf
These are mostly (all?) laser printers
When you print a test page, it shows ppd used, middle of page, 2/3 down
For a HL-2140, running under x86, this is filter driver
/usr/local/Brother/lpd/rawtobr2: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV),
