It has a global modem, which should work in most countries.

Prefer progress one step at a time and make sure the Linux phone ecosystems progressing sturdily. Starts a crowdfunding campaign can bring in influx of crowd and this may not able to set appropriate expectation. Wrong expectation can easily crash the current build up momentum.

Alternative Phone OSes

Hi all,

I think about getting a Pine Phone. I just don't understand the consequences of using an alternative Phone OS.

I was googling for experience reports but did not find any that made me feel like I understand the shortcomings.

Is anyone here running an alternative Phone OS and wants to talk about their experience? I don't want to ask any specific questions as don't want to limit answers.

Well, all these system are native regular Linux. This obviously has huge implications for the security of the device together with the privacy switches, but the shortcoming is (similarly to Desktop Linux from a few years back) a relatively small selection of 'apps' and services available on these platforms. Also, in terms of ease of use + polish, these OSs are somewhat behind the big two mobile systems.

So... The update didn't mention the PineTab. Is there any news on that development front?
