Will Netflix actually be 4K
#1
There's a lot of people posting about using the box for Netflix 4K ... However it seems very unlikely that this will be the case..

Can anyone confirm its version of the netflix App will be 4K enabled - Most versions of Android App aren't (the new FireTV being an exception) ...

At the very least HDCP 2.2 needs to be supported according to both Netflix and Amazon.

There's more here on the subject ( http://androidpcreview.com/will-my-andro...r-4k/3784/ ) I would like to know the actual capabilities of the both the Netfix and Prime apps.

Yes the android app currently supports 4K Netflix streaming if you pay for the $12 month Netflix premium to get 4K streaming access.

I am not familiar with Amazon primes video app even though I have it

The player will support Netflix under Android app environment, and I don't think is 4K. This is Netflix call, not ours.

Here's the post on android community explaining most android hardware can't handle 4K at this time but that it is possible

The issue with Netflix 4K is that the Pine64 doesn't have support for HDCP 2.2 support

This device will only play Netflix in DVD quality and no Dolby Digital.

Seems like better than DVD quality but not 1080P quality.

Why not 1080p?
Was actually planning to use the pine as a media / Game Center. No HD from Netflix will be so disappointing...

Ah - I've seen your post elsewhere on the HDCP2.2 question. That's going to basically limit 4K playback to ripped (assuming some one finds a way to do it) content as all the 4K steaming and Physical media requires it.

A shame as that limits the media center longevity somewhat.

No the Pine A64 limitation. If Netflix plan to output 1080P stream, Pine A64 can handles. I make this statement just base on my observation of Netflix Android app.

I see. I'm not sure if this is due to a Netflix setting. I remember coming across a setting in Netflix (on browser) where you can specify the stream to be auto or some other quality for "all devices".
I believe this setting messes up the streaming for devices. My Windows computer does not get full hd streams while my Blu-Ray player does.

I'll try out this setting and check if this is the cause. But I can't test it out on android as I left my volt in the office.
