No Audio other than HDMI
#1
Question
So, I've tried every trick the others could throw at me to get the analog audio to work, but nothing. I can get the analog audio to show in the system preferences and PulseAudio Volume Control AND the meters move that something is attempting to output, but... nada.

So I thought, A-HA, I'll use Bluetooth...except that when I select the Bluetooth Manager (using Ubuntu MATE)... an error dialog "Connection to BlueZ failed. BlueZ daemon is not running, bluesman-manager cannot continue. This probably means that there were no Bluetooth adapters detected or Bluetooth daemon was not started."

I am using the Pine64 WiFi/BT POT. WiFi IS working, but apparently BT is NOT.

When I run through an HDMI cable through a TV, I get sound, both for Android and Ubuntu. But no sound any other way.

Help?

Greetings-- in order to get the PineA64 audio jack to work (rather than hdmi) you need to add a driver (currectly in blob format) and the the alsa audio stuff. (Alsa may be there, but the blob needs to be downloaded).

longsleep has provided a download and instructions on this site.  I used his instructions and got my audio jack working quite nicely--- the audio is actually really quite good too...

The instructions are fairly straight forward, and you shouldn't have any trouble.

I'm using the debian mate image... highly recommend it, very nice.

Read through this link for instructions that work !

Ok, Mark. So I finally gave up on Ubuntu and went to Debian and applied the various recommended commands...

Low and behold, I was able to get analog audio (headphone), as well as BlueTooth audio!!!!!

But....

Can't seem to get Debian to see 1920x1080 60Hz resolution for my monitor. Can't see anything but 1280x720 and a "0" refresh rate.

xrandr reveals that it "can't get the gamma", so.... no bueno.

It worked fine with Ubuntu MATE, but not Debian MATE.

I just can't win for trying.

Using a Samsung S22D300HY that I picked up for $80 on Woot. HDMI and VGA inputs.

Did you edit uenv.txt in your uboot partition to comply with the correct display output?
Check this page for info on display modes and tweaks. Mode 10 or equivalent looks like your cup of tea.

Yeah Debian comes with a default setting of 720p in uEnv.txt ... but thanks for confirming that BT audio works, that was something I wanted to try for some time and was not sure is possible with Linux since for audio, the BT module no only uses the UART but also a 4 bit PCM interface that needs driver support...
Come have a chat in the Pine IRC channel >>

OK. Thanks for the answer and observation. So a possible solution I'm willing to try... with some guidance for the noob (me), please. What is the best practice for editing the file and what specifically am I to edit/change?

Seeing that jwouellette succeeded in using the Bluetooth audio I would love to do it too.

I'm currently on Debian Base (3.10.102 BSP 2) and want to stay with a headless version.

@jwouellette: which debian were using and also is it possibile to kindly provide a mini g uide ?

Thank you and have a great day !

Yeah, well... except that the screen resolution sucks and the controls in the MATE GUI for Debian are not as extensive as they are for Ubuntu. Been trying to track that one down in other threads... to no such, at this point.

Seems like there are trade offs no matter which direction you go..
