"Repository" for Safe Software/Apps?
#1
Hi first time Linux user here.  I'm aware Linux operating systems usually have something called a "repository" that provides a safe way to get a wide variety of popular software for your Linux device.  So on Linux Mint for example, I think it's called "software manager."

Just booted up my PinePhone... I'm wondering if there is something similar here to get me started that I'm not seeing.

I moved your question to the PinePhone section of the forum. Mind that asking such questions in the community chat is usually the fastest way to get a reply, please see https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/Main_Page#Chat_Platforms for the channel list.

Regarding your question there should be such a software manager too, it's probably called "Discover". You can also install Firefox from there.

Many people use the terminal for such tasks however, as it is more reliable and gives a better output of the things happening. Under Manjaro the tool to update the system and installing and removing packages is called "pacman". To update the system you can run "sudo pacman -Syu", to install applications you can run "sudo pacman -S APPNAME". I strongly recommend you to get yourself familiar with the terminal usage, if that's not the case already.

And so any app I see in Discover is safe to install as far as being confident it doesn't have viruses/spyware or whatever, right? Because it's a Linux repository?
