Have any of you tried RemixOS on the PINE64 yet? I'm asking because I'm planning to buy a PINE64 and install RemixOS on it. Therefore I have no clue (yet) on how to go about doing things with the PINE64.

How hard is it to get an OS installed on the PINE64? Are there any tutorials online?

Thanks guys,

There's a tutorial for installing Android on the Pine64 wiki, here:

I think RemixOS is still under development, not sure how many people have their hands on it right right now.

We have the Remix first build and still under testing. I will check with Remix folk whether we can release as Alpha or Bate.

I received the development board, so I can share some experience thus far, if you have any questions, want me to run some tests let me know.

First of all the board is pretty big - if you are used to raspberry pi, think twice the size (check the photo for the size comparison). Personally I don't mind, but you may say whoa this is big Wink

For the numbers fans: Antutu: final score: 23467
If you compare that to Amlogic or Rockchip

it seems to lag behind, on the other hand, Pine has no heatsink and I noticed very significant throttling when temperatures reached 120F.
If you want better performance heatsink is a must.
CPU-Z report available at valid.x86.fr/a/khq0ec
The standard range of apps work just fine, I had few crashes with app store installing antutu 3d, I guess there are some quirks of android that need to be worked out.
Netflix running at 1080p gets the temperature of the core (measured with the outside thermometer) to 110F.
KillAWatt EZ (the wall power meter) shows 4.8-5.2W while running Netflix.

Audio goes through HDMI unless you plug headphones.
Board shows great potential for whatever you will want to use it, game console / tv box, ARMv8 development machine. It needs some loving, but hey for 19/29$ you can't go wrong.

If the Antutu score is around 23-24000 then the Pine should perform somewhere close to the LG G3. Not bad at all I'd say!

Do you have the version with 2GB or the one with 1GB?

Cheers!

1GB and 2GB using same build.

1GB version. I will try again with a heatsink. That could improve things.

Yes, but there should be a subtle performance difference between 1 and 2 GB of RAM.

That would be very interesting.
I'm under the impression that the LG G3 scored something around 24000. If I'm right, then the Pine comes really close.

According to some raspberry Pi users, any heatsinks attached to the board lower the CPU & GPU temperature up to 3-4 degrees Celsius. If this is also the case with Pine64, then we will also get something on performance...  Well, hopefully.

Can't wait to get my hands on the Pine guys!

I follow this tutorial but don't have any video on HDMI port, even after few hours on 20160112 IMG.
When I power-up my Pine64 (2GB) the RJ45 LEDs blink after approx. 200 seconds, but no video Sad

I tried with another microSD card and got exactly the same issue.

My Pine64 is working on RemixOS, but the OS bootloops when RJ45 is plugged (known IMG issue)

Try skipping the ethernet both for remix and android at least for the time being. Until new BSP and android image is released and new release of remix emerge the experience will be not so great.

I have received mine (model 2G). Performance is not good... Android has several lag (don't talk about remix OS...). I used a class 10 MicroSD (64Go sandisk extreme), with 10W power supply (3A). Any ideas ?

Which image exactly are you using? What specifically is lagging? Several people reported issues with Play Store and I think some of the issues are slowly being worked out. Check other threads about known issues about Android and see if there is anything similar to what you have experienced. Also, are you using "smart power supply" that regulates the output or it always outputs 2A?
cheers
